Permission to installation
Your dropped kerb, in three steps.
Apply to Leeds Council
Request a vehicle-crossing site inspection. The council checks whether your proposed driveway access is suitable.
Start your application ↗Send us your approval
We handle the Section 171 contractor paperwork, supply our street works qualifications and insurance details, and liaise with the council.
We build your crossing
Once the required permissions are in place, we prepare the foundations, install the kerbs and finish the footpath in tarmac to the agreed specification.
Start with Leeds City Council’s dropped kerb guidance. Separate planning permission may also be needed, including for access from a classified road.
Vehicle crossings · Driveway access
Dropped kerb installation.
Built from the ground up.
A dropped kerb creates vehicle access across the pavement to your driveway. We prepare the crossing to carry vehicles, with the kerbs, levels and surface built to the council-approved specification.

New dropped kerbs
Excavation, a prepared and compacted sub-base, lowered and transition kerbs, then tarmac base and surface courses.
Wider driveway entrances
We assess existing vehicle-crossing extensions and how they meet your driveway, subject to council approval.
A complete driveway
Combine the crossing with block paving or a tarmac driveway. We plan the entrance, levels and drainage together.
Heritage on site

DROPPED KERB QUESTIONS
Dropped kerb questions.
Can you handle the Section 171 application?
Yes. We can prepare and submit the contractor application, provide the relevant qualification and insurance documents, and liaise with Leeds City Council. Let us know whether your initial vehicle-crossing application has already been approved.
Can you widen an existing dropped kerb?
Yes, subject to council approval and the site being suitable. We assess the proposed width and how it meets the driveway.
How much does a dropped kerb cost in Leeds?
The price depends on the crossing size, pavement construction, ground conditions and any obstructions. We provide a written quote setting out the work included and clarify council fees and any additional charges before you commit.
How long does it take?
We confirm the installation programme after assessing the site. Council applications and any additional permissions have their own timescales, so these need to be allowed for before booking the work.
What qualifications do you hold?
Our team holds the relevant NRSWA street works qualifications and certificates for our dropped kerb work. We can provide supporting documents for the council application.
